[KAIST Startup Village] Building Shared AI Development Infrastructure for Startups

KAIST Startup Village adopted an integrated AI development platform so that resident startups can efficiently share GPU resources and conduct machine learning and deep learning R&D. The platform lets the center operate shared infrastructure systematically while each company flexibly uses the AI development environment it needs.

Shared AI Development Infrastructure for Resident Companies

KAIST Startup Village needed an environment where startups on campus could efficiently use shared GPU resources and reliably conduct the AI R&D each company needs. It also required a framework that provides machine learning and deep learning development environments together with high-performance computing, to support resident companies' AI technology development and commercialization.

Securing Shared GPU Operations and AI Development Environments for Each Company

The key challenge was to let many resident companies efficiently share limited GPU resources while continuing research and experiments in their own independent AI development environments.

  • GPU sharing environment: An environment for many resident companies to share GPU resources systematically

  • AI development environment: A basic development environment for machine learning and deep learning

  • High-performance computing: A computing environment to handle complex AI research and large-scale computation

Providing an Integrated AI Development Platform on Shared Infrastructure

With Cheetah, we provided an operating framework to manage resident companies in groups and flexibly allocate GPU resources, along with built-in AI development environments and multi-node cluster capabilities.

  • Group-based resource management: An environment to manage resident companies by group and efficiently allocate GPU resources

  • Basic development environment: Development environments with built-in AI libraries and frameworks

  • Multi-node computing: GPU multi-node cluster capabilities for high-performance computing workloads

More Efficient AI Development and Better Resource Use for Resident Companies

KAIST Startup Village now manages 15 resident companies in groups, with an environment for distributing and using shared GPU resources more systematically. Resident companies can set up independent AI development environments with their allocated resources and handle complex AI workloads more efficiently with multi-node clusters.

  • More efficient use of shared resources: Resident companies receive systematically allocated GPU resources and use them efficiently

  • Independent development environments: Each company creates the AI development environment it needs for R&D

  • Support for high-performance workloads: Complex AI computing tasks handled with multi-node clusters
